The Best Toys For Sensory Play

December 6, 2019 Arielle
IMG_3271.PNG

I’ve been a little open with some of the struggles my youngest has dealt with, but haven’t fully opened up about everything. There will be another time and post for that, but for now I will say that a lot of things have been hard for her and our family. She is extremely sensitive to a lot of things such as sounds, feels, textures, etc. So when someone introduced me to the whole world of sensory toys and products, we began collecting them over the years and our lives changed because of them!

A lot of these products will help your child become more comfortable with senses out of their comfort zone. Also helping them burn their ongoing and constant energy that they somehow have haha! If your child struggles with any of these issues, I highly suggest going over this list because these products have been SUCH a lifesaver, especially when it comes to my daughters eating habits! Getting her comfortable with different textures really helped her try new foods!

Everything is an affiliate link through Amazon, so thank you so much for supporting The Diva Dish if you happen to purchase though the link!

Sensory Drawing/Art Toys
Sequin Drawing Board

Sequin Drawing Board

My daughter loves any of the clothes with the flip sequins and this is such a great quiet activity that your kids can do while feeling the textures and drawing pictures. Great for car trips and church as well!

Dot Art

Dot Art

These are great because online has so many resources where you can print out pictures with empty dots so your child can use the markers and fill the picture up! It’s one of my daughters favorite art supplies!

Magnet Drawing Board

Magnet Drawing Board

Another great drawing board that doesn’t require a lot of mess and paper! Still allows your kiddo to great, draw, and watch how the drawing tool brings the magnets to the surface!

Magnet Board

Magnet Board

This one is extremely popular! When I shared it on my instagram, I had over 50 emails asking where to get it. It’s great because the tool brings magnets up to through the little dots to create patterns and pictures. Then they can use their fingers to push down the magnets. GREAT for OT work and kids needing extra sensory work!

Sensory Toys
Kinetic Sand

Kinetic Sand

When my youngest was in eating therapy and OT, one of the biggest things she had to do was get her hands ‘dirty’ by playing with things like Kinetic Sand to get her being ok with different textures. This is such a fun controlled activity, as long as you keep it in a box while they play! ;)

Water Beads

Water Beads

This was another toy we introduced to my daughter when she needed to be ok touching and feeling different textures. These are cold and wet, which sometimes can be hard for kids! This kit comes with tools to pick up the beads, which is great for their fine motor skills!

Textured Stacking Blocks

Textured Stacking Blocks

These blocks are great because of their texture! Toys with texture and different feels are great for kids with sensory issues!

Pop Tube Toys

Pop Tube Toys

I am sure some of you remember these from years ago, but my daughter will talk about these toys from her preschool all the time. The ability to use their hand strength, hear the noise, and feel the tube going back together all works great for their sensory needs!

Magnatiles

Magnatiles

This toy has not only been a lifesaver for my youngest, but ALL of my kids love these tiles. They are magnetic and stick together, allowing kids to build all sorts of towers! It’s great for helping their mind come up with different patters thats work and don’t. Magnets are great for kids with sensory issues because they love how they stick and come apart!

Magnet Tiles

Magnet Tiles

These are similar to the magna-tiles, but a cheaper option. They work just as great and come in all sorts of colors!

Sensory Physical Play Toys
Jungle Jumparoo

Jungle Jumparoo

This was definitely a bigger purchase than normal, but it has been hands down one of the best things we’ve ever purchased! My youngest is CONSTANTLY going. Jumping from things to things, tumbling, swinging, climbing…This one toy changed everything because you can do all that! She is on it daily and gets A LOT of her energy out on it. You can also order a swing for the middle too, which is a great addition I would suggest! Also every kid that comes over here loves it as well. It’s much safer than a regular trampoline which I love, no bounce back!

Mini Trampoline

Mini Trampoline

If a big expense isn’t the right for your family, these are a great option too! They are best for younger kids, but do their job when you have a kid who doesn’t stop. They can hang on and bounce away! They are also a great safe option!

Geometric Climbing Dome

Geometric Climbing Dome

This was another lifesaver in our household because if my daughter was done jumping, then she would go climb. It’s definitely not the best toy for toddlers safety wise, but if you child is comfortable climbing and hanging, this is PERFECT! it’s not too high, which I like, and it’s great at working on keeping their energy levels down! (And helping them be strong!)

Tumbling Mat

Tumbling Mat

They are going to tumble, roll, and jump anyways, so might as well have a safe spot they can do it in! I love that these fold up and I can put them away when they aren’t being used!

Textured Balancing Dots

Textured Balancing Dots

I LOVE these! The textures on the dots are so perfect for sensory sensitive kids and their feet! All while working on the balancing skills as well!
